January 2003
visit The 2003 delegation brought back about 150 pounds of coffee to use as a fundraiser for the sister parish project. Subsistence farmers in Baradères grew and harvested the coffee. We paid them a fair-trade price for it so they actually made a profit. The world market price for coffee is about 80 percent less and prevents small farmers from making a profit. |
