visit Vilaine was the leader of a troupe of small children who greeted us after Mass at St. Pierre's church. But we came to know her better. Later that day she served as our tour guide, translator and Creole language instructor when our paths crossed during a walk through the Baradères "suburbs." She will make a fine teacher or other leader someday, if she has an opportunity to develop her potential. Vilaine and many others like her are national treasures in a country that is all but bankrupt of the resources necessary to protect and nourish them. |
