visit The gentleness, intelligence and strength in this young man's face would take him far. That is, if he lived where job opportunities meant more than being an assistant to a boat operator. Baradères and the other rural regions of Haiti lack such opportunities. Many talented young men leave their rural villages and go to Port-au-Prince, thinking this is a hopeful move. We are told that most never return. If anything, conditionsjobs, poverty, living conditionsare worse in Port-au-Prince. And the village loses more of its future leaders and talented workers. |
