Our sister parish project enables many peopleespecially childrenin St. Pierre parish, Baradères, Haiti, to obtain health and educational services they otherwise would not have.
In this way we seek to help the people build a better future for themselves, their family and their community.
The project is a parish ministry of St. John the Baptist Catholic Community, Silver Spring, Maryland.
Right now we have an exciting opportunity to help the St. Pierre parish. The pastor, Fr. Jean-Phillippe, does not have a vehicle, vital for delivering supplies, visiting the tiny rural chapels, and even transporting people to a hospital.
We can purchase a brand-new Land Cruiser for $8,000 through a Eurpean missionary organization. List price is about $80,000! As of August 16, we have received pledges and donations covering 25% of the cost.
Fr. Jean-Philippe will visit us in October. Our parish will hold a Haitian Festival to raise funds and enjoy Haitian food and music. To help welcome him, you may wish to learn a few simple Haitian phrases. Click here to download an audio file for your computer or smartphone.
