In this way we seek to help the people build a better future for themselves, their family and their community. The project is a parish ministry of St. John the Baptist Catholic Community, Silver Spring, Maryland. The project team's last visit to Baradères, January 15-22, 2007, was a medical mission that relied partly on health-worker training of several students of St. Pierre parish's only secondary and high school, the Collège St. Jean Baptiste. At this website you can learn more about Baradères and the sister parish project—and how you can support it. You can also explore many links to information about Haiti and her people, and what some of our previous visits have accomplished. Haiti has an infant mortality rate of 71 per 1,000 births. Twenty-eight percent of children under 5 are malnourished. Life expectancy is 53 years. Half the people cannot read and write. But hand in hand with our brothers and sisters in Baradères, we are making a difference for thousands of children and their families in Baradères. Most of our accomplishments in Baradères are works in progress. They will play out in the strands of individual lives—lives that are far away from us in miles but ever close to our hearts. |
